Subungual exostosis

- Presents with a persistent or recurring ingrown toenail
- On examination, an indurated mass frequently can be palpated
at the border of the nail where
the recurrent inflammation occurs
- X-rays show a bone spur or accentuation of the tuft of the
distal phalanx just under the
nail bed
- Direct excision of the
exostosis and the involved portion of the nail is usually curative
