Rule out the fatal and avoid misses

• hypernatremic dehydration: If severe headache or mental status changes, rule out intracranial hemorrhage, a rare but potentially disastrous complication. Get a head CT.
• abdominal pain: think about DKA, Familial mediterranean fever can present with severe serositis that may look like an acute abdomen

• Any child with Fever/ rash/ non-purulent pink eye, ALWAYS consider Kawasaki

• first presentation of Long QT syndrome can present w/ 1st afebrile seizure.

• nausea, vomiting, anorexia can be presenting symptoms of acute myocarditis or pericarditis

• absence of tonsillar tissue: immunodeficiency

• bilateral tonsillar hypertrophy: HIV

• bilateral parotitis: HIV

• ITP when less than 1 y/o: r/o HIV
