PFAPA
A periodic fever syndrome
- Periodic
fever
- aphthous stomatitis
- pharyngitis
- adenitis(cervical)
Presentation
- Regularly occurring fevers with onset before 5 yrs of age
- Constitutional sx in the absence of upper respiratory infection with at
least one of the following clinical signs: aphthous stomatitis, cervical
adenitis, pharyngitis
- Episodes last 3-6 days; asymptomatic interval between episodes and normal
growth and development
- Elevated ESR & WBC, negative cultures
Treat with prednisone burst; tonsillectomy may help ? Attacks appear to
resolve with age.
