When discharged 48 hrs after delivery, all breastfeeding mothers and their infants should be seen by their pediatrician or other knowledgeable health care provider when the newborn is 2-4 days of age.
Expect:

Breast milk can be kept (a) at room temperature for 4 hours; (b) in the fridge for 3 days (ideal) to 8 days (acceptable); (c) in the freezer for 3 months (d) in deep freeze for 6 months (ideal) to 12 months (acceptable). If transporting breast milk in a ‘cooler’ with ice packs, use within 24 hours. Infant formula can be kept at room temperature for 2 hours. If formula is partly used, finish the rest within one hour from the start of the feeding. Formula should not be refrozen. Prepare only as much as you will need. Formula prepared from powder can be stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Liquid formula (ready-to-feed or prepared from concentrate) can be stored in the fridge for up to 48 hours. Finish powdered formula within one month after opening the can; store the can of powder in a cool dry place, not in the refrigerator or freezer.

In the hospital:
Newborn exam should be performed no later than 12 to 18 hours after birth.

Usual prenatal screenings: maternal blood type and Rh, antibody screen, serology testing, rubella status, PPD, hep screening, AFP, US.

Naegle's Rule: LMP + 7 days - 3 months. Assumes 28 day cycle, ovulating on day 14 or 15. If cycle is longer, ovulation occurs later, so EDC is shorter.

Average Pregnancy is 280 days, or 40 weeks.

Lanugo development peaks at 28-30 weeks gestation then declines
Foot creases appear between 28-30 weeks gestation and should cover entire plantar surface at or near term.

Low birth weight infant: < 2500 g
Very low birth weight infant: < 1500 g.
Incredibly low birth weight < 750 grams
Symmetrical growth retardation: <10%ile on all 3 growth parameters (early gestational insults i.e. congenital viral, single-gene defects, chromosomal d/o)
Assymetrical growth retardation: <10%ile on 1 growth parameter. Usually the weight is low. Assoc with poor uteroplacental function, or nutritional deficiencies in 3rd trimester i.e maternal preeclampsia, poor caloric intake during pregnancy, chronic fetal distress.
