Minimal Change Disease
also Nephrotic Syndrome, Nephrotic vs Nephritis Chart

• UA with significant proteinuria
• may have hematuria with the proteinuria
• cholesterol is elevated; albumin is decreased
• C3 is normal

Treatment:

• prednisone2mg/kg/day for 4 weeks then wean
• most patients have total resolution of proteinuria within 21 days
• relapses which require intermittent prednisone may occur
• consider renal biopsy if no response
• Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis must always be considered in any child who has Nephrotic Syndrome and does not undergo a remission within 4 weeks of beginning steroid therapy
