Complications of meningitis include: seizures, cranial neuropathies, venous
sinus thrombosis, stroke, subduraleffusions, abscess, and increased ICP.
Systemic complications include thrombocytosis, eosinophilia, anemia, DIC, and
fever. SIADH can occur in the first several days of illness, causing
hyponatremia and reduced serum osmolality. Urine osmolality will be higher than
the serum osmolalityin SIADH.
