Introducing foods into an infant's diet

• intro 1 food per week by 4-6 months
• usually start with single grain rice cereals, no evidence that any order is preferable
• don't add sugar or salt (if underweight, can add oil)
• there is no nutritional indication to give solid foods before 4 m/o
• continue breast feeding/formula through the age of 1 year, then may switch to regular milk
• AVOID hot dogs, nuts, raw carrots, grapes, raisins, popcorn until age 4
• NO honey or corn syrup until age 1 year
