Hypoparathyroid, Clinical Symptoms
Symptoms are manifestations of Hypocalcemia
- Neonate: jitteriness, tetany
- Older kids: muscle pain and cramps, numbness, tingling, stiffness of hands
and feet
- Chvosteks/ Trousseau sign; Carpopedal/laryngospasm
- Convulsions (Hypo PTH often looks like epilepsy)
- Prolonged QT interval on ECG
- Calcifications in the basal ganglia on CT/ xray
- Longstanding hypocalcemia from hypo PTH can cause: rickets, cataracts,
alopecia, delayed/ irreg teeth
