Hyperhomocysteinemia

• Enzyme defects lead to increase in Homocysteine levels
• Can also be caused by deficiencies in B12, B6, Folate, poor nutrition, renal or liver failure
• Higher risk for ARTERIAL atherosclerotic and venous thromboembolic events
• Diagnosed by measuring homocysteine levels
