Hydrocele

• Accumulation of fluid within tunica vaginalis

• Occurs in 1-2% of neonates

• If persists beyond 12 mos think communicating hydrocele and increased risk of developing hernia, so refer

• hydrocelectomy is reserved for those that persist over the age of 2

• May develop in an older boy secondary to an inflammatory process (torsion, epididymitis, tumor)
