Hepatitis, Autoimmune

Autoimmune hepatitis typically presents with fatigue, jaundice, and coagulopathy. Autoimmune hepatitis is divided into two subtypes. 10% have celiac disease; could be associated with other autoimmune diseases. 90% survival at 10 years.

  1. Type 1 is characterized by the presence of anti-smooth muscle antibodies and/or +ANA
  2. Type 2 is characterized by anti-liver-kidney microsomal antibodies and principally affects young children.

Treat with corticosteroids and azathioprine (levels of thiopurine methyl transferase should be taken) or cyclosporin +/- transplant.
