Epiglottitis
Acute onset of high fever, sore throat, dyspnea; progresses to stridor,
hoarseness, brassy cough, irritability, drooling.
- X-ray findings: Thumb-like appearance of the epiglottis ("Thumb sign").
- Peak age: 4 years
- Organisms: H. Flu and Strep
- Clinical: Abrupt onset, high fever, sore throat, drooling, head in
"sniffing" position
- Treatment: Airway management, IV Antibiotics
