Kawasaki Diagnostic Flowsheet for Evaluation of INCOMPLETE Kawasaki
disease
Criteria for Echo:
- Fever for five days and 2 or 3 clinical criteria AND
- (+) symptom: patient characteristics consistent with KD AND
- (+) lab: CRP >= 3 or ESR >=40
OR
- fever for 5 days and 2 or 3 clinical criteria AND
- (-) lab: CRP <3 and ESR < 40 AND
- (-) symptom: Fever resolves AND
- (+) symptom: BUT typical peeling occurs later
Sample cases
- Pt has fever >5 days, but only 2 other criteria
- ESR >40 or CRP >3.
- ESR <40 and CRP <3.
- Answers
- Do ECHO (also consider treatment right away if 3 other labs mentioned
before are +)
- Follow closely. Get ECHO if they eventually start peeling in the
extremities.
- Pt is < 6 months old, has fever x 7 days of unknown etiology, and NO other
criteria.
- Pt is < 6 months old, has fever >5 days of unknown etiology, and only 1
other criteria.
Answers:
- If ESR and CRP elevated, do ECHO.
- If ESR and CRP elevated, do ECHO.
